Kick Off Chase

Kick Off Chase

It is often a good idea for coaches to draw up diagrams to clarify what they require in any given situation.

In the following kick off options the coach has started with a split field so depending on the call the players will know what their role is in each situation.

The numbers in the diagrams are only indicative of this team. Each coach should ensure that the best player he has to suit any particular role is placed in that situation.
‘C’ are the chasers.   ‘L’ is the close support player.  ‘T’ is the hooker (for these diagrams)

Of course this is only the start. You must win the ball back from the short kick off and plan your play once it has been recovered.

On the long kick off you must keep them in their half by forcing a lineout throw to your team or force a turnover at the tackle.

It is the fun part though and emphasizes to every player that they must be ready to carry out their task. Make sure your kicker practices at every training session.
