SD Seniors Drills 4-Corner Mauling Drill
OBJECTIVE:
To maintain ball control under pressure.
EQUIPMENT:
Four balls, tackle suits, cones.
GROUP SIZE:
Groups of 5–6 players.
AREA:
10m x 10m.
DRILL EXPLANATION:
- An attacker picks ball up and drives towards the target (centre of grid).
- When the player meets the suits (defenders), a maul is formed.
- When the coach is satisfied that the maul is moving forward and the control is good, they signal “break” and the forwards go around the cone and pick up ball 2 and repeat the drill.
- Four repetitions are completed.
COACHING POINTS:
• Body position.
• Not getting isolated.
• Communication.
VARIATIONS / PROGRESSION:
Instead of suits, use hit shields.
