OBJECTIVE:
To practise second phase continuity.
EQUIPMENT:
One ball per group.
GROUP SIZE:
One forward pack, one backline, and two defenders.
AREA:
Field.
DRILL EXPLANATION:
- The backline goes through a passing movement.
- When the ball arrives at the last player (D), they are held by the defenders.
- The forwards (X) are lying on their stomachs and after the first pass they can get up and go in support of the backs.
- Once the forwards reach the defenders they must organise themselves so to maul the ball back.
- The backs and the defenders realign.
- Player D acts as halfback and the ball moves through the backs again and the drill continues.
COACHING POINTS:
• Focus on the accuracy and running of the backs.
• Body position of the forwards.
• Communication.
• Depth of the back line.
• Speed by supporting players.
