Defence Decision
OBJECTIVE:
To practise defensive options.
EQUIPMENT:
Three cones, one ball.
GROUP SIZE:
Groups of 7.
AREA:
10m x 10m.
DRILL EXPLANATION:
- Attacking group runs around their cone and attacks ‘try-line' behind defenders' last cone.
- Two defenders run around first cone and last defender goes around last cone.
- Halfback passes to attackers.
- Defenders work on man-on-man defensive pattern with back defender taking extra player.
- Attackers try to score.
COACHING POINTS:
• First receiver should try and hold the defence initially so there isn’t an immediate drift.
• Attacking team should use all passing and running skills to score.
• Defenders need to communicate throughout the drill.
• Back defender must look for space created.
VARIATIONS / PROGRESSION:
First defender plays man-on-man; other defenders drift.
