10 x 10 metre grid.

DRILL EXPLANATION:

  1. Coach and one player position themselves inside a circle of players.
  2. The coach throws the ball to one of the players in the circle and the player in the middle advances to that player and secures, rips and pops the ball back to the coach.
  3. The coach tosses the ball to another player in the circle and the drill continues.
  4. Change roles to progress.

COACHING POINTS:

• Correct positioning of the body of the “ripper” when contact is made.
• Make sure resistance is realistic from other players.

VARIATIONS / PROGRESSION:

  1. Doesn't have to be done in a circle.
  2. Introduce a support player for a pass.
