OBJECTIVE:
To apply pressure by putting the ball high into the air, allowing attacking players to contest possession.
KEY FACTORS:
- Hold ball in upright position.
- Eyes on ball.
- Head over top of ball.
- Turn slightly side-on to protect ball.
- Swing hips into kick.
- Contact ball just behind and under point.
- Raise toes on contact.
- High follow-through.
- Protect ball from opposition.
COMMON ERRORS:
- Kick goes too far or not far enough.
- Kicker lifts head too early.
- Ball not placed correctly on the foot.
- Follow-through not high enough.
- Non-kicking foot leaving the ground creates imbalance.
