OBJECTIVE: Execute straight running with basic pass.
EQUIPMENT: 10 cones / One ball.
GROUP SIZE: Seven in each group.
AREA: 10 x 15 metre grid.
DRILL SEP-UP: Players set up as shown in the diagram. Four attackers vs three defenders.
DRILL EXPLANATION:
- First attacker starts with the ball and must commit the defender before passing the supporting player.
- Each player in turn must commit his or her defender, which enables an overlap for the outside player.
- All attacking players must support the ball-carrier until they reach the try-line.
COACHING POINTS:
• Ensure players are committing the defenders.
• Note correct passing technique.
• Ensure players are communicating.
VARIATIONS / PROGRESSION:
- Close the space between the defenders.
- Allow defender 3 to drift off the third passer.
- Allow defenders 2 and 3 to drift off the second and third passers.
