OBJECTIVE: To make a restart from halfway or 22-metre line
EQUIPMENT: Balls and tee
GROUP SIZE: 2–4
AREA: 35m x 20m
DRILL SET-UP: 5m x 5m coned target area.
DRILL EXPLANATION:
- Player is to drop-kick ball into target area.
- From centre of field, drop-kick the ball so it lands over the 10m line.
- After 4–6 attempts, change players or move the target area.
- Other three players could be practising catching the ball or putting pressure on catcher.
COACHING POINTS:
1. Identify target area.
2. Eyes on ball.
3. Stay balanced and relaxed.
4. Firm contact with foot.
5. Follow through after contact.
VARIATIONS / PROGRESSION:
- Decrease size of target area.
- Do a deep kick (ie target area on 22m).
