SD U13 Drills New Ball
OBJECTIVE:
To get players to quickly adapt their strategies.
EQUIPMENT:
3–4 balls.
GROUP SIZE:
Two teams of 10–15 players per side.
AREA:
Full field.
DRILL SEP-UP:
Two teams as normal rugby game.
DRILL EXPLANATION:
- The game proceeds as for a normal rugby game.
- Upon a signal from the coach a second ball is thrown to an area in the field where there are no players.
- The first ball is now dead and the second ball is in play.
- The players must adapt their strategy to cope with the new ball position.
- The coach repeats the exercise.
COACHING POINTS:
• Quick transition necessary from the players to react to the new situation i.e. offence to defence and vice versa.
