OBJECTIVE:

One hit shield per attacker.

DRILL EXPLANATION:

  1. Split group in half, with one half as attackers holding shields and the other half as defenders.
  2. Coach stands behind defending group so they can direct attackers with their arm.
  3. Defenders nominate opponents clearly and move laterally mirroring their movements.
  4. As a player in the attacking group is NOMINATED his/her opposite will move forward and tackle them.
  5. Members from the attacking group close to the contact area move forward to simulate support.
  6. The defending team rearrange themselves quickly to match up to opponents.
  7. With a further signal the defending group move forward into contact with their new opposites.

COACHING POINTS:

• Defenders should be aware to adjust their spacing in response to their opposite leaving no spaces.

Compete for a ball on tackle.
