OBJECTIVE:

To re-gather or straddle ball whilst retaining feet. To establish forward movement.

KEY FACTORS:

  1. Approach grounded ball from depth parallel to touchline.
  2. Identify role.
  3. Assume low driving position, ie lower knees and hips; spine in line; chin off chest; eyes up.
  4. Retain feet and secure position by straddling ball.
  5. Drive forward binding onto opposition and past the ball, or picking up ball and driving forward.

COMMON ERRORS:

  1. Not understanding options.
  2. Diving into contact area for ball.
  3. Chin on chest; eyes closed.
  4. Fall over due to unstable body position.
  5. Too upright when attempting to pick up ball.
  6. Hesitation going into contact area.
