OBJECTIVE:
To re-gather or straddle ball whilst retaining feet. To establish forward movement.
KEY FACTORS:
- Approach grounded ball from depth parallel to touchline.
- Identify role.
- Assume low driving position, ie lower knees and hips; spine in line; chin off chest; eyes up.
- Retain feet and secure position by straddling ball.
- Drive forward binding onto opposition and past the ball, or picking up ball and driving forward.
COMMON ERRORS:
- Not understanding options.
- Diving into contact area for ball.
- Chin on chest; eyes closed.
- Fall over due to unstable body position.
- Too upright when attempting to pick up ball.
- Hesitation going into contact area.
